Seminars for Year 5 Students

    Each year NSB conducts Hapan Scholarship seminars for the year five students throughout the country. In the year 2010 NSB conducted Tamil and Sinhala medium seminars, nearly 800 students participated at each program and benefited.
    Apart from that NSB sponsored a series of seminars for the Year 5 Scholarship Examination students, in collaboration with “Tharunayata Hetak” in the year 2010, at a cost of Rs. 1,964,800. These seminars were conducted in all three languages and more than 20,000 students in Polonnaruwa, Matara, Galle, Badulla, Kandy, Anuradhapura, Ampara, Colombo, Hambantota districts were benefited by the program.

“Scholarships” for the students who pass the Year 5 Scholarship Examination with flying colours

    NSB fulfils its Corporate Social Responsibility honouring the success of the students who sit for Grade 5 scholarship examination. The top ten scorers in each district and those who secured the highest national ranks received their scholarships at the Temple Trees, while the other students with merit results were recognized and awarded for their achievements at their respective NSB branches. A total of 131 students who obtained merit results (covering all districts) in 2009 were awarded scholarships worth of Rs. 410,000 and the three students who scored the highest marks on an island-wide basis were awarded three special prizes in the year 2010

Seminars and Training Programs for Schoolchildren

    National Savings Bank conducts a series of free seminars all around the country focusing government examinations. The seminars are facilitated by the well-known academic personalities of the country to help schoolchildren to develop their knowledge, academic skills, personality and attitudes.

“Nana Guna Thilina” Presidential Book Project

    A voluntary project was conducted by the staff members of H.E. the Presidents to encourage the reading habit of schoolchildren in every corner of the country. Identified schools with poor library facilities were donated books suitable for children up to 14 years of age. NSB donated Rs. 1,000,000 for this project in year 2010. The donation enabled schools to either start a new library or upgrade the existing resources.

Contribution to Environment Protection projects

    NSB implemented an eco-friendly program in collaboration with the Federation of Wildlife Conservation to protect the environment. By initiating the project, the Bank expects to protect the environment with the active participation of the school children in Hambantota District.
    The Bank spent Rs.1.5 million for this project and the objectives were to carry out various environmental protection activities such as model forestation, organic farming practice, maintenance of medical plants, eco library, garbage recycling, and compost production which positively impacted society quite considerably in the year 2009/ 2010.

Benefactor for Religious Activities

    In celebration of 2600 Buddha Jayanthi, the Bank contributed lavishly towards religious activities. The Bank also sponsored the Gangarama Perahera, Bellanwilla Perahera, Kandy Esala Perahera and numerous other religious activities held in 2008/2009/2010.

    Donation for the “Ran veta” project
    The NSB funded Rs. 1,000,000 for the completion of the construction of the Golden fence (Ran veta) of the Aluthnuwara Keerthi Sri Mahabodhi Temple conducted by the Department of Public Trustee in the year 2010.

    Construction of Dahampasal Building
    NSB extended its support to construct a Dahampasal Building for Sri Sudarshanaramaya, Udalumada, Rikillagaskada in the year 2010

    A Talent Recognition Program
    A talent recognition program for Sunday-schoolchildren was jointly organized by the Ministry of Buddha Shasana and the Department of Buddhist Affairs, in Trincomalee in the year 2010. NSB partly contributed to the sessions held over a span of three days.
